Ingersoll Rand 1SV load solenoid

Ingersoll Rand · Load/unload solenoid

All components

Intellisys/Xe-series pilot solenoid controlling the inlet valve and blowdown on UP6, R-Series and Sierra units.

Also called: 1SV · load solenoid valve UP6 · Intellisys load valve

De-energised state: NC

Energised to load. On modulating machines 1SV stays energised while the modulator throttles the inlet.

How it works

Intellisys energises 1SV to route control air to the inlet valve cylinder. On unload, 1SV de-energises, the inlet valve spring closes and 3SV/blowdown vents sump pressure. Some R-Series use 1SV combined with a modulation valve for part-load control.

Coil resistance (typical, cold DC)

Coil voltageResistanceHoldInrush
120 VAC250 – 550 Ω11 – 17 VA
24 VDC (Xe controllers)28 – 55 Ω9 – 14 W

Typical values for the stated wattage class. Always compare against the coil tag. Open circuit = burnt winding; near 0 Ω = shorted turns.

Field test procedure

  1. Intellisys > machine status: command LOAD and meter the coil leads.
  2. 120 VAC coil should read roughly 250 – 550 Ω cold. Drastically low = shorted turns.
  3. Inspect the small inline filter/orifice tee — IR machines commonly plug it with separator carryover varnish.

Symptoms & probable causes

  • Unit runs, no pressure build
1SV not energising or inlet valve poppet stuck closed.
  • Will not unload / high pressure trip
1SV passing internally, or blowdown line restricted.
