Gardner Denver load solenoid (SV1)

Gardner Denver · Load/unload solenoid

All components

Pilot valve for the inlet valve and blowdown on Electra-Saver, ESM and AirSmart-controlled units.

Also called: SV1 · AirSmart load valve · GD Electra-Saver solenoid

De-energised state: NC

How it works

On turn-valve Electra-Saver machines the load solenoid works with the turn-valve actuator; on fixed-speed ESM units it simply opens/closes the inlet valve pilot circuit and triggers blowdown at unload.

Coil resistance (typical, cold DC)

Coil voltageResistanceHoldInrush
120 VAC250 – 550 Ω
24 VDC28 – 55 Ω

Typical values for the stated wattage class. Always compare against the coil tag. Open circuit = burnt winding; near 0 Ω = shorted turns.

Field test procedure

  1. AirSmart controller has an output test — force SV1 and confirm 120 V at the coil.
  2. Check the pilot air filter/regulator; GD packages run a small regulator that drifts low with age.

Symptoms & probable causes

  • Capacity stuck at part load
Turn valve actuator or its pilot solenoid, not the main load solenoid.
