OL = open coil. 0–2 Ω = shorted turns (often from a cooked transformer). Ballpark only (±15%+); electronic wide-range coils (e.g. ABB AF) read misleading values — test those at rated voltage instead. Always measure coil-to-frame too: must be >1 MΩ.

  • European machines usually ship 400 V coils — check before assuming 120 V; swapping the coil is cheaper than the whole contactor.
  • 50 Hz-rated coils run hotter on 60 Hz but generally hold; 60 Hz-rated coils on 50 Hz will chatter.
  • Lovato part numbers encode the aux configuration in the suffix, so BF2510A and BF2501A differ only by NO vs NC aux.
