AF26-30-11 (26 A, wide-range coil)

ABB · AF 09–38 frame

AF26 with the electronic wide-range coil (100–250 V or 24–60 V one part number) — very common in compressor panels with unstable control voltage.

Coil data
Available coil voltages
Wide-range electronic: 24–60 V AC/DC or 100–250 V AC/DC per part number
Inrush VA
≈ 4 W hold / 40 VA pull-in (electronically limited)
Sealed (holding) VA
≈ 3–4 W
Pickup voltage
Down to 85% of the low end of the range
Dropout voltage
Managed electronically — tolerates dips to ≈ 70%
Typical measured coil resistance (±15%, ballpark)
Electronic coilNot meaningful — reads a circuit, not a winding (often 1–10 kΩ or open)

OL = open coil · near zero = shorted turns · coil-to-frame must read >1 MΩ.

Coil resistance checker

Pick the coil voltage, enter your meter reading across A1–A2 (coil disconnected), and compare it to the expected ballpark.

Ω
Generic mid-frame 110–120 VAC60 Ω180 Ω

Readings 2× high usually mean heat damage and a coil near end of life. Ballpark only (±15%+); electronic wide-range coils (e.g. ABB AF) read misleading values — test those at rated voltage instead. Always measure coil-to-frame too: must be >1 MΩ.

Terminals & accessories
Power/coil terminals: Screw to 16 mm²; coil terminals A1/A2 with ferrite-free electronics module
Auxiliary contacts: 1NO+1NC built in; CA5 front and CAL side blocks expand
Companion overload: TF42 thermal or EF19 electronic overload, direct-mount

Field notes
  • Do NOT condemn an AF coil by resistance — the electronics make the reading meaningless. Apply rated control voltage and listen/see if it seals.
  • The wide-range coil is the fix for chattering on generator power or a long control run; a standard AC magnet coil will keep dropping out.
  • AF units draw very low sealed power, so a PLC output or small transformer can hold several without sag.
