42CF35AJ (3-pole 60 A FLA)
Siemens / Furnas · 42C 60 A frame
Heavy definite-purpose frame for three-phase compressors up to about 20 HP @ 460 V. Common OEM contactor on Champion, FS-Curtis and refrigeration packages.

Coil data
- Available coil voltages
- Suffix AJ = 24 VAC; AG = 120 VAC; AF = 208–240 VAC
- Inrush VA
- ≈ 90 VA
- Sealed (holding) VA
- ≈ 9 VA
- Pickup voltage
- ≥ 85% of rated
- Dropout voltage
- 20–65% of rated
Typical measured coil resistance (±15%, ballpark)
24 VAC (AJ)≈ 5–8 Ω
120 VAC (AG)≈ 90–160 Ω
208–240 VAC (AF)≈ 350–600 Ω
OL = open coil · near zero = shorted turns · coil-to-frame must read >1 MΩ.
Coil resistance checker
Pick the coil voltage, enter your meter reading across A1–A2 (coil disconnected), and compare it to the expected ballpark.
Ω
This model (24 VAC (AJ) table value)5 Ω–8 Ω
Generic mid-frame 24 VAC4 Ω–9 Ω
OL = open coil. 0–2 Ω = shorted turns (often from a cooked transformer). Ballpark only (±15%+); electronic wide-range coils (e.g. ABB AF) read misleading values — test those at rated voltage instead. Always measure coil-to-frame too: must be >1 MΩ.
Terminals & accessories
Power/coil terminals: Box lugs 14–4 AWG; coil on front ears
Auxiliary contacts: Accepts 49/49-series snap-on aux contact blocks (NO/NC)

Field notes
- On 3-phase recips check for single-phasing evidence: one pole burned while the other two are clean means it lost a leg upstream.
- Frame also comes in 50 A and 75/90 A (42E…) versions — match the FLA stamp on the label, not the silhouette.
