Xe-70M
The Xe-70M shares transducers and RTDs with the Xe-90M/145M but has fewer I/O points and no onboard Ethernet — it is not a drop-in upgrade path.
Manufacturer
Ingersoll Rand
Display
Backlit monochrome LCD, 4-line text, 6 membrane keys with red alarm / amber warning LEDs.
Years produced
~2015 – present. Entry tier of the Xe family below Xe-90M/Xe-145M.
Power supply
24 VDC from the package control transformer (110/230 VAC primary).
Ambient range
0 – 46 °C (panel-mounted, keep out of direct airend radiant heat).
Protection rating
IP54 front / IP20 rear.
Relay outputs
Star/delta or across-the-line contactors, load solenoid, blowdown solenoid, common alarm, remote-run.
Replaces
Intellisys SG, Intellisys Simplicity
Used on
- IR R-Series 5–30 kW fixed speed
- UP6 / RS-Series small screw packages
Features
- Load/unload and modulation modes with adjustable offline/online pressure
- Auto-restart after power failure (must be enabled; ships disabled)
- Three independent maintenance timers (filter, separator, coolant)
- Scheduled start/stop with a 7-day timer
Interfaces
- Modbus RTU (RS-485)
- Volt-free run and alarm contacts
- Remote start/stop input
Sensor inputs
- Package discharge pressure (4–20 mA)
- Airend discharge temperature (RTD)
- Separator ΔP (option)
- Motor thermal contacts
Fault code lookup
First checks
- Coolant level and cooler core cleanliness
- Thermostatic valve stuck in bypass
- Verify RTD reading against an IR thermometer at the airend
First checks
- Minimum pressure / check valve stuck open
- Blowdown solenoid leaking through
- Verify transducer zero with the unit stopped and vented
First checks
- Confirm with a mechanical gauge across the separator
- Look for coolant foaming / wrong fluid
- Replace element and reset only that timer
First checks
- Compare draw to nameplate FLA on all three legs
- Voltage imbalance under 2 %
- Airend drag / bearing noise
First checks
- Swap any two incoming legs at the disconnect
- Confirm phase monitor is not mis-set
- Bump-test and watch the sheave
First checks
- Twist-release the E-stop then press Reset
- Jumper check the remote loop if unused
First checks
- Loop-check the 4–20 mA at the terminal
- Shield grounded at one end only
- Swap in a known-good sensor
Fault list is non-exhaustive and firmware-dependent. Always confirm against the controller’s on-screen help or OEM manual.
Sensor pin resistance & signal values
Pin-level resistance and signal values for the sensor types this controller uses. Works offline. De-energise the panel and lift one lead before ohming any element.
Wiring notes
- Pressure transducer uses a shielded 2-wire loop — grounding both ends causes drifting pressure readings
- Blowdown and load solenoid outputs are transistor-driven; add a suppression diode across each coil
- Remote start/stop is a dry contact only — applying 24 V to it damages the input
Known issues & field notes
- Membrane keypad cracks at the arrow keys in hot rooms; oil mist then shorts the dome switches
- Auto-restart ships disabled from the factory and is frequently blamed as a 'won't restart' fault
Operator menu is open. Service menu is dealer-set at commissioning; IR does not publish a universal code. If locked out, an authorized distributor must reset it.
