R-series controller (Xe-90M/145M panel, R-series UI)

The R-series panel firmware is common across a wide horsepower band — parameters, not hardware, define the machine size. Always back up parameters before board swaps.

Manufacturer
Ingersoll Rand
Display
Color LCD with membrane navigation keys (evolved Xe-series hardware), or full touchscreen on later builds.
Years produced
~2013 – present on R-series oil-flooded screws.
Power supply
24 VDC logic from panel PSU.
Ambient range
0 – 46 °C.
Protection rating
IP54 front.
Relay outputs
Starter outputs, solenoid outputs, dryer, remote alarm, low-ambient heater control.
Used on
  • Ingersoll Rand R30 – R160 fixed speed
  • RS / RSn variable speed R-series
Features
  • Sequential control ready with X-series system controllers
  • Performance analytics pages (specific power estimate)
  • Active protection: controller learns normal rates-of-change and alarms on anomaly trends
  • Remote firmware update capability via service tool
Interfaces
  • Modbus TCP/RTU
  • Ethernet to X-series system controls
  • Helix / Flow Control connectivity
  • USB service port
Sensor inputs
  • Airend discharge temperature
  • Package pressure
  • Sump pressure
  • Coolant filter differential (option)
  • VSD drive feedback bus (RS/TS builds)
Fault code lookup
First checks
  • Coolant level and cooler
  • Thermal valve
  • Ambient and cabinet filters
First checks
  • Replace element
  • Check scavenge line
  • Confirm correct coolant
First checks
  • Connector at the sensor body
  • Harness chafe at the separator tank
  • Swap with known-good
First checks
  • Sub-code maps in the drive manual
  • Heatsink fans running
  • Line reactor condition
First checks
  • Running amps vs data plate
  • Voltage imbalance under load
  • Starter contact condition

Fault list is non-exhaustive and firmware-dependent. Always confirm against the controller’s on-screen help or OEM manual.

Sensor pin resistance & signal values

Pin-level resistance and signal values for the sensor types this controller uses. Works offline. De-energise the panel and lift one lead before ohming any element.

Wiring notes
  • Sensor harness connectors are keyed but similar — label before disconnecting during service
  • The USB port is for the IR service tool; do not power laptops from it
  • VSD comms run on a dedicated shielded pair — do not re-route through the mains duct
Known issues & field notes
  • False 'sensor failure' alarms after pressure-washing — water in the connector bodies; dry and dielectric-grease them
  • Some early RS builds shipped conservative low-ambient defaults causing nuisance cold-start lockouts; parameter update resolves

Operator and service passwords distributor-managed; factory level requires IR service tool login.
