CP Central Controller (up to 6)
Multi-compressor plant master. Not a compressor controller — pairs with each machine's local panel. Best-fit for all-CP shops; mixed-brand plants often benefit from a vendor-neutral sequencer instead.
Manufacturer
Chicago Pneumatic
Display
5-inch color TFT touch.
Years produced
~2015 – present.

Used on
- Networks of CP QRS / CP screws
- Mixed-brand plants using dry-contact enable
Features
- Sequencing up to 6 compressors
- Equal run-hours balancing
- Cascade or narrow-band control
- Trend & event export via USB
Interfaces
- Ethernet Modbus TCP
- RS-485 Modbus RTU
- Digital I/O for legacy machines
- USB service port
Sensor inputs
- Common header pressure (4–20 mA)
- Ambient temp (option)
- Dewpoint from downstream dryer (Modbus)
Common fault codes
First checks
- Check cable & termination to that unit
- Verify slave node address
- Cycle power to the affected unit
First checks
- Verify 24 VDC loop
- Test sensor at known pressure
- Check for water in the impulse line
First checks
- Verify all machines in Auto
- Check for large leak or open service valve
- Review event log for cascading trips
First checks
- Verify unload setpoints on each unit
- Check for a compressor stuck in load
Fault list is non-exhaustive and firmware-dependent. Always confirm against the controller’s on-screen help or OEM manual.
Wiring notes
- Modbus RTU to CP units carrying an ES4000 or newer controller — 120 Ω termination at each end
- Legacy IR / Sullair / GD machines wire in via dry-contact enable + run-feedback pairs
- Header pressure sensor MUST be at the plant discharge, not on a branch
Known issues & field notes
- USB export truncates files > 32 MB — export more often on high-event sites
- Firmware < 1.20 mis-reports run hours after DST changes — update recommended
