Sigma Control 3 (SC3)

Kaeser

Sigma Control 3 (SC3)

Sigma Control 3 (SC3) is Kaeser's next-generation compressor controller, introduced on the SXC series (SXC 3–11 SC3) alongside — not replacing — Sigma Control 2. Publicly confirmed: touchscreen HMI, native Sigma Smart Air / Sigma Air Manager 4.0 integration, Ethernet, and use on SXC small-frame units. Dealer-only (not published publicly as of this writing): full fault-code table, terminal / pinout map, service PINs, firmware release notes, and complete I/O channel list. For any SC3 service work beyond what the HMI shows on-screen, plan on Kaeser dealer support.

Manufacturer
Kaeser
Display
Full-color capacitive touchscreen HMI (departure from SC2's 2-line LCD + membrane keypad). Home screen shows line pressure, running state, and service status at a glance.
Years produced
~2023 – present. Rolled out first on the SXC series (SXC 3–11 SC3) as Kaeser's next-generation controller alongside Sigma Control 2.
Power supply
24 VDC internal, fed from the unit control transformer (package dependent). Battery-backed RTC.
Ambient range
0 – 46 °C ambient inside the cabinet (typical, per Kaeser package spec).
Protection rating
IP54 front when installed in the OEM cabinet (publicly confirmed on SXC series).
Relay outputs
Configurable digital outputs for motor contactor(s), dryer, blowdown solenoid, and common alarm. Exact count depends on package options; detailed I/O map is dealer-only.
Used on
  • Kaeser SXC 3–11 (SC3) rotary screw compressors
  • Kaeser next-generation small-frame packages (roll-out is ongoing — most mid/large frames still ship with Sigma Control 2)
Features
  • Touchscreen HMI with graphical trend display
  • Native pairing with Kaeser Sigma Smart Air remote monitoring
  • Integrates with Sigma Air Manager 4.0 for multi-compressor sequencing
  • Weekly / holiday scheduling with multiple pressure bands
  • Multi-language menus, password-protected service tiers
  • Event log with timestamped alarms and load/unload transitions
Interfaces
  • Ethernet RJ45 (Sigma Network / Modbus TCP)
  • Wi-Fi / mobile-app pairing via Kaeser SIGMA SMART AIR / Sigma Air Manager 4.0 ecosystem
  • SD card slot for firmware & event log (per Kaeser package documentation)
  • Optional fieldbus modules (Profinet, EtherNet/IP) — module list is dealer-only
  • Digital I/O for remote start/stop, load/unload, common alarm
Sensor inputs
  • Airend discharge temp (publicly listed on brochure – exact channel map dealer-only)
  • Line / network pressure (publicly listed)
  • Sump / internal pressure (publicly listed)
  • Additional analog channels for dryer, filter ΔP, ambient — full channel list is dealer-only
Fault code lookup
First checks
  • Read the on-screen alarm text — SC3 shows a plain-language description with the code
  • Check line pressure, airend discharge temp, and motor amps on the HMI trend screen
  • Export the event log to SD card or Sigma Smart Air and share with your Kaeser dealer
  • Cross-reference against Sigma Control 2 codes as a starting point — many carry over, but do NOT assume identical setpoints

Fault list is non-exhaustive and firmware-dependent. Always confirm against the controller’s on-screen help or OEM manual.

Sensor pin resistance & signal values

Pin-level resistance and signal values for the sensor types this controller uses. Works offline. De-energise the panel and lift one lead before ohming any element.

Wiring notes
  • 24 VDC control voltage from unit control transformer
  • Digital inputs sinking 24 VDC, isolated from mains (per package)
  • Sensor cabling shielded, ground shield ONE end only at the controller
  • Detailed terminal / connector map is dealer-only — request the SXC package schematic from Kaeser
Terminal & connector map

Pinouts distilled from OEM wiring diagrams. Exact silk-screen labels and pin numbering vary by hardware revision and package options — always confirm against the machine’s as-built wiring diagram before landing a wire.

Connectors to the controller
  • Ethernet RJ45 for Sigma Network / Sigma Smart Air uplink
  • SD card slot for firmware and event log (behind cabinet door)
  • Detailed X-terminal map is dealer-only — refer to the package-specific schematic that ships with the unit
Known issues & field notes
  • Publicly reported field issues are limited — the platform is new and most units are still under warranty
  • Touchscreen glare / readability in bright shop lighting has been noted in early user reports
  • Detailed I/O and fault documentation is not yet on Kaeser's public site — most technical detail is dealer-portal only
Retrofit notes

No public retrofit kit for upgrading Sigma Control 2 packages to SC3. SC3 currently ships factory-fitted on the SXC series and other new small-frame units.

Firmware notes

Firmware is distributed via Kaeser dealer/service portal. Do not cross-flash between compressor / booster / vacuum variants. Keep a known-good backup on SD before any update.

Service menu is PIN-protected; site owner sets a PIN via Kaeser dealer. Factory / OEM tier is dealer-only and there is no publicly documented default — do not attempt to brute-force.

Field reference

Condensed working reference. Cross-check against the OEM service manual before torquing anything.

Field tips
  • SC3 is Kaeser's newest controller — assume documentation depth on the shop floor is thinner than Sigma Control 2 until Kaeser publishes more
  • Pair the unit to Sigma Smart Air on commissioning — remote log export makes dealer support far faster on this platform
  • If a fault code isn't in the public tables, screenshot the HMI (plain-language description is shown) and send to your Kaeser dealer
