Doosan/Airman Portable Controller

Doosan Portable Power is now a Bobcat brand. Engine ECU faults dominate service calls — always start by reading the SPN/FMI, not the compressor controller code.

  • Airman PDS portable compressors (Japan/Asia branding)
Features
  • Engine + airend integrated monitoring
  • Cold-start glow plug sequencing
  • Fuel level shutdown to prevent engine airbind
  • Service hour reminders per component
Interfaces
  • J1939 CAN (engine ECU)
  • RS-232 service port
  • Telematics module (option — cellular)
Sensor inputs
  • Airend discharge temp
  • Package discharge pressure
  • Engine oil pressure & temp (via J1939)
  • Fuel level
Common fault codes
First checks
  • Read SPN/FMI on display
  • Cross-reference in engine manufacturer manual (Kubota / Cummins / Doosan)
  • Check DEF level on Tier 4 Final units
First checks
  • Cooler cleanliness (very common on jobsite — dust)
  • Fluid level & thermostat
  • Ambient too high?
First checks
  • Refuel
  • Verify float sender
  • Check for fuel leaks / theft
First checks
  • Service valve closed downstream?
  • Regulator adjustment
  • Verify pressure sensor

Fault list is non-exhaustive and firmware-dependent. Always confirm against the controller’s on-screen help or OEM manual.

Wiring notes
  • Automotive-style Deutsch connectors — always regrease on reassembly
  • J1939 backbone requires 120 Ω termination at both ends
Known issues & field notes
  • Display fades in direct sun after ~5 years — replaceable assembly
  • DEF freeze on Tier 4 machines below -10 °C — heated tank required for winter use
