Operating principle

An intake filter removes dust and particulate before air enters compression. Cleaner intake extends ring/rotor/scroll life and protects downstream separators and desiccant.

  • Paper/synthetic element
  • Housing with restriction gauge
  • Pre-filter (some)
  • Rain cap / intake piping
Common issues
  • Clogged filter → reduced capacity, higher energy, overheating
  • Bypassed element → abrasives destroy rings/rotors
  • Wet filter → restriction and corrosion
  • Wrong element → poor fit, bypass
Maintenance
  • Change on differential pressure, not just schedule
  • Inspect housing/gasket for bypass
  • Keep intake away from hot/dusty sources
  • Log the restriction trend
