High-Pressure (Booster)

All reference
Compressor

Multi-stage reciprocating designs that produce 500–6,000+ PSI for PET, breathing air, paintball, CNG.

Typical range
3–60 HP, 500–6,000 PSI (some to 15,000 PSI)
Best for
SCBA fill stations, PET bottle blowing, gas boosting, specialty industrial.
Operating principle

Multi-stage reciprocating with interstage cooling between each stage. Each stage boosts pressure progressively; the final stage reaches 500–6,000+ PSI. Safety relief at every stage prevents overpressure.

Efficiency notes

Lower volumetric efficiency at extreme ratios; intercooling is essential to manage discharge temp and power. Multi-staging improves efficiency vs single-stage high ratio.

Selection guidance

SCBA fill stations, PET bottle blowing, CNG, gas boosting, paintball. Match the number of stages to the target pressure and required purity.

Components
  • 3–5 compression stages
  • Interstage coolers
  • Moisture separators between stages
  • Final purification (breathing air)
  • Safety relief at each stage
Common issues
  • Stage pressure imbalance → failed valves on one stage
  • Moisture in final air → drain separators every cycle, replace desiccant
  • Overheating final stage → low oil, intercooler fouling
Maintenance
  • Drain interstage separators every fill / hourly
  • Replace breathing air cartridges per CO/moisture monitor
  • Hydrostatic test storage cylinders per jurisdiction
Field tips
  • Drain interstage separators every fill — moisture kills final-stage valves
  • Replace breathing-air CO/moisture cartridges on monitor signal, not schedule
  • Hydrotest storage cylinders per jurisdiction
