DeWalt / Emglo Portable & stationary contractor series
Contractor portables and small stationary units, including the long-running Emglo cast-iron pumps, aimed at nailer and service-truck duty.
- Framing and roofing crews
- Service trucks
- Small shop stationary air
Specs & intervals below are from publicly published OEM literature and long-standing field practice. Torque values, exact revision-dated part numbers, and safety-critical settings vary by serial number — always cross-check the unit’s OEM manual and nameplate before ordering parts or performing service.
Several DeWalt portables are oil-free — check the pump casting before adding oil.
| Category | Interval | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Crankcase oil (oil-lubed frames) | 200–500 hr | |
| Intake filter | 100–200 hr | |
| Check valve | Inspect annually | |
| Pressure switch with unloader | Replace on failure | |
| Belt (belt-drive frames) | Quarterly check |
Consumable part numbers change by revision and region — pull the current number from the OEM portal.
- Check crankcase oil level
- Drain tank moisture
- Listen for valve tick / knock
- Verify unloader operates on cut-out
- Change crankcase oil (mineral) or verify PAO/synthetic at manufacturer interval
- Clean or replace inlet filter
- Check belt tension & sheave alignment
- Torque head bolts to spec if any weeping
- Pull head; inspect reed/disc valves and seats
- Check ring gap and cylinder wear
- Torque head bolts to OEM spec in cross pattern
- Test safety valve
- Inspect crankshaft & rod bearings on splash-lube units
- Top-end rebuild (rings, valves, gaskets)
- Inspect rod bearings and crank end play
- Verify aftercooler condensate drain
- Motor hums, will not start hot — unloader not venting head pressure
- Trips on start with a long cord — undersized extension cord
- Slow to build after a few seasons — reed valves and check valve
- Tank rust-through on units never drained
- High max pressure gives more usable air per tank
- Wide dealer parts network
- Emglo pumps are long-lived
- Loud
- Some models oil-free with short pump life
- Portables are duty-cycle limited
