Capacitance meter · Insulated screwdriver · 20 kΩ 5W resistor

Cut power and discharge
Pull disconnect. Short across HERM–C and FAN–C with a resistor across the leads.
SafetyNever short with bare metal — arc flash / component damage.

Photograph terminals
HERM, FAN, C — labels differ by brand. Verify wire colors.

Swap cap
Match µF exactly (e.g. 45/5). Voltage must be ≥ original (usually 370 or 440 V — 440 always fits).

Restore and verify
Restore power. Compressor and fan should start together. Amp-check both.
