PM· Easy 60–90 min
Standard spring PM for a residential split system.
Tools
Coil cleaner · Fin comb · Manometer · Capacitance meter · Clamp meter
1
Kill power
Pull disconnect at outdoor unit and switch off the air handler breaker.
SafetyVerify absence of voltage before touching contactor.
2
Wash the condenser coil
Rinse from inside out with garden hose. Straighten bent fins with a fin comb.
3
Check capacitor(s)
Discharge, then measure µF vs nameplate. Replace if outside ±6%.
4
Tighten electrical
Torque contactor and disconnect lugs. Inspect wire for melt/pitting.
5
Change filter, clean blower
MERV 8–11. Inspect and brush blower wheel if dusty.
6
Verify charge
Superheat on fixed-orifice or subcool on TXV. Correct at 95°F outdoor / 80°F return.
7
Clear condensate
Vacuum outside termination; flush with vinegar solution.
8
Cycle and log
Record supply/return delta-T (18–22°F typical), amps, saturation temps.
