Treat all condensate as oily waste. Wear gloves and eye protection, and never discharge untreated condensate to a storm drain — that is a reportable violation in most jurisdictions.

Procedure

    Check the sight/test port

    Most units include a clear test valve. Draw a sample: clear water passes, cloudy or sheened water means the media is loaded.

    Replace the media on condition

    Change cartridges when the test sample fails or at the manufacturer's interval — typically annually, sooner in high-humidity or heavily loaded rooms.

    Drain and dispose properly

    Collected oil is regulated waste. Store in a labeled container and dispose through a licensed waste hauler; keep the manifests.

    Verify sizing

    Separators are rated in CFM of connected compressor capacity, and PAG/diester fluids need a specifically rated unit — standard units will not separate them and the discharge will fail.

    Document the test

    Record sample results, media change dates, and disposal manifests. If an inspector asks, the paperwork is the compliance.
