Rapid clicking at start-up or around the set point means the switch contacts are bouncing. It burns contacts quickly and can damage the motor.
1
Pressure pulsation at the switch (mounted directly on pump discharge)
lowCheckSwitch located on a manifold close to the pump with no snubber. Needle on a nearby gauge vibrates heavily.
FixRelocate the switch to the tank, or install a pressure snubber in the sensing line.

2
Low voltage dropping when motor starts
highCheckMeasure voltage at the switch while the motor starts. A drop of more than ~10% (e.g., 230V to under 207V) can cause a magnetic starter coil to drop out and re-pull, sounding like chatter.
FixUpgrade the supply wire size for the run length, shorten extension cords (never use thin cords), or have the utility check supply.

Differential too narrow
lowCheckCut-in and cut-out within a few psi of each other.
FixWiden the differential to at least 20 psi.
