- Reciprocating air compressors are normally kept under about 4:1 per stage and refrigeration compressors under roughly 10:1, because higher ratios drive up discharge temperature and cut volumetric efficiency.
- Why does compression ratio matter for discharge temperature?
- Discharge temperature rises with the ratio raised to the (k−1)/k power, so a small ratio increase produces a large temperature increase and accelerates oil breakdown.
- Do I use gauge or absolute pressure?
