Heated / blower-purge desiccant dryer

Desiccant dryer

AirCompDX - Field Reference for Air Compressor Techs
All air treatment

Uses an electric heater (and on blower-purge, an ambient air blower) to regenerate beads. Reduces purge loss dramatically vs heatless.

How it works

Heater raises regen air to 350–450°F to drive moisture off beads, then cooling phase before tower returns to service. Blower-purge uses ambient air rather than dry product air, cutting purge to ~2%.

Key specs

  • PDP–40°F (–100°F option)
  • Purge lossHeated ~7%, blower-purge ~2%
  • Heater temp350–450°F regen

Preventive maintenance

  • Quarterly: check heater amp draw and high-temp limit switch.
  • Annual: inspect blower (blower-purge models), check valve seats.
  • Verify cooling step is full duration — short cooling sends hot air downstream.
Troubleshooting
Hot air at outlet during switchover
Likely causes
  • Cooling step too short or skipped
  • Cooling valve failure
Fix

Verify cycle timer, replace cooling sequence valve.

Heater not heating
Likely causes
  • Open heating element
  • Tripped high-limit
  • Failed contactor / SSR
Fix

Ohm element, reset high-limit only after root cause, replace contactor.
